What is a Message?

That's easy: a message is just text which has been stored in Conversant's database, along with some other info about the message such as who created it, the date and time that it was created, the message's subject, and other information that describes the message.

A message can be plain text, or it can contain HTML tags. A message is not a complete HTML document.

Messages are managed through a "discussion group". It's no accident that messages are called messages! Literally, the text and HTML "content" for your site is built with an online discussion system. A message in the discussion group is like a single email. This allows any member of your site (at your discretion) to post content to the site, and it allows everyone to comment on what's been posted.

Conversant assigns a number to a message whenever a new message is stored (created). You'll use that number anywhere that you need to refer to the message.

Don't worry, if you don't understand messages yet, you will soon.
