Event Calendar Admin's Manual

4. Managing Categories

4.1. Generalities

Any event may have none, one, several or all categories attached to it. A category is a kind of flag used to identify an event, to hilight it, or just to add more informations. These categories are split in several category groups and are fully manageable by the site's Admins. They can be displayed in any view, as icons or as colored background, and more importantly, users can choose to filter the displayed events on their categories.

The default category groups are "Priority" (that contains items like "Highest", "High", etc) and "Type" (that contains items like "Anniversary", "Appointment", etc). They were chosen because they demonstrate every features of categories. The former works with single selections (an event cannot be at the same time of Low and High priority), while the latter allows multi selections (an event can be at the same time an Anniversary and a Party). Also, the priority is displayed in the calendars as colored backgrounds, while types are displayed with icons.

Note that you can have any number of category groups in a calendar, and any number of categories in each category group.

See the User's Manual for more information on using categories (from the user's point of view).
