Redirect Page

Summary

The redirect page tells the browser to look in a different place for the same content. It's generally used when reorganizing your site, so that old links are not broken.

Details

This page type allows you to reorganize your content without breaking your user's bookmarks.

You can create any number of such redirection pages, anywhere in your site's structure.

Lets say you just moved "/yourSite/stories/fun/" to "/yourSite/news/".

Go to the structure editor, select the folder in which you want to create a redirection page ("stories", in our example), and scroll the window all the way down, to the "Add New File Or Folder" form.

Type in "Navigation Title" the name of the folder or the page this redirection replaces (that would be "fun", here), set "File Type" to "Redirect Page", and click on "Add New File".

The page will reload with a confirmation that the new object has been created. Locate it in the "Folder Content" listing, and click on its name.

That opens its properties editor. Just ignore them all except the last one, "Redirection URL". Set its value to the new url of the object you moved (in our example, "/yourSite/news/").

Important: the redirection URL must either start with a slash ('/') or be a full url like "http://www.free-conversant.com/".

Click on "Change File Properties". That's it.

All the requests to "/yourSite/stories/fun/" will be redirected to "/yourSite/news/" and a request to "/yourSite/stories/fun/2000/01/01/0001" would be redirected to "/yourSite/news/2000/01/01/0001". View in DG
